Tracy Arm Fjord

Tracy Arm Fjord

Harbor seals watching us drift by while they rest.

Climb aboard a small ship to take you further into this remote location. This beautiful area is besieged with many sizes of floating ice. Some of these icebergs are larger than the small boat that carries people to see the glaciers. Other pieces seem to be the perfect size for resting harbor seals.

As we continued, we finally came to both Sawyer Glacier, and on the opposite side of the fjord the South Sawyer Glacier. We were able to spend time at each, and admire the might of nature itself. The color spectrum in the ice from the light blues, to dark blues, had everyone awe struck. It was really striking to see how much shear rock had been carved out. The steep cliff sides of the rock in contrast with the glacier filled water, and master designer, the glacier, kept everyone in amaze. In the time that we had spent in total admiration, some of the ice pieces had fallen into the water, causing a thunder to roar and bounced off the cliff walls.

Sawyer Glacier during a beautiful day.

Our captain was a master of maneuvering the boat through the ice fields to get us around the fjord with complete safety. The crew even provided snacks and warm drinks so that passengers would remain warm during our excursion. Once the views of the glaciers was done, we continued our tour to visit the rest of the fjord and explore waterfalls, drastic cuts in the cliff sides, and admire the majesty of Mother Nature.
