Jupiter’s Temple

Jupiter’s Temple

Jupiter’s Temple lone statue.

Ancient god of the sky and thunder, this temple is very unique. Just in front of the entry, lies a lone Egyptian sphinx statue, which has sadly lost its head over the years. The building is small and rectangular in shape.

The ceiling has unique faces, each with their own expression; inside, a single statue, with a basin in front. Once it worshiped the most powerful god in the ancient Roman world, but once the empire fell, it became a baptistery. Emperor Diocletian also believed that he was the son of this god, so it would make sense why it was so sacred. Still, it’s amazing that it has remained in tack, and is still standing tall today.

Faces looking down from the temple ceiling.
