St. Mark’s Square

St. Mark’s Square

This lively square is filled with shops on the side, and cafés selling to people, the tourist on the square walking around, and the thousands of pigeons strutting their stuff and flying around. At times, you can buy a small bag of popcorn kernels for 1 Euro and have these pigeons feeding from your hand. They will wrestle each other for food so get ready for a fun-filled activity. During the evening, this square becomes quiet and very charming with the low amount of people and lights on the basilica.

Off to the side of the square, lies the clock tower (Torre dell”Orologio) that if timed correctly, you can still see the men swing their hammers against the bell to ring it. It works just as it has since 1499! Even the decorations around this large clock are beautiful to see.
