Urbino

Urbino

The Noble Duke!

A mid-evil town tucked in the hilly country side of Marche region of Italy is a World Heritage Site. It is surrounded by high walls which served for protection of the city. This lost in time city transports you back into the Renaissance. It is famous for the Duke of Urbino, Federico da Montefeltro. His unique profile was a result of a tournament injury in which he lost his right eye. Due to his limited vision, he chose to remove the bridge of his nose to improve his peripheral vision; and it worked! As a result of this disfigurement, he insisted that portraits presented his “good side”. Urbino was also the childhood home of the Renaissance Master, Raphael Sanzio.
